Am I a binge drinker?

If I drink three pints of Real Ale over the course of an evening in the pub, or enjoy and savour three and a half glasses of quality wine during a dinner party, that officially makes me a Binge Drinker. So both pictures above are accurately depicting Binge Drinkers, yet I really do not consider myself to be part of that problem group creating misery in city centres on Saturday nights.

When newspapers run a piece about Binge Drinking why do we always see an image of a glass of wine being poured rather than drunken teenagers sprawled across the street? I feel unfairly targetted.

For the NHS, binge drinking is defined as drinking over double the amount of recommended daily units in one session. For men this is over 8 units, for women, 6.

What is a unit? - 10ml of pure alcohol, so a standard glass of 13.5% wine is 2.35 units.
Whilst I think the social problem is out in the battlefields of the city centres, it is making me think more about my consumption.
