Robe Umbrian Sangiovese 2008

Robe Umbrian Sangiovese 2008 14% £6.99

From Roberto's organic vineyards comes this great red. Softly displaying its predominantly Sangiovese characteristics which are a lovely purity of plummy fruit liked a good Chianti but better (in my humble...) and elegant tannins then a short while in oak to add an extra something, but not heavy oak characters. Great value for money and a wine to enjoy on its own as well as with a good plate of Italian food. Approximately 85% Sangiovese with a cheeky 15% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Drink now to 2013
Ventisquero Chilean Merlot Maipo Valley 2008

Ventisquero Chilean Merlot Maipo Valley 2008 13.5% £7.49

Simply another great wine from this dynamic producer. Black cherry and plum fruit flavours with a soft vanilla from the aging in American oak barrels. Particularly good value for money. Drink now to 2011
Ventisquero Reserva Chardonnay Casablanca Valley 2008

Ventisquero Reserva Chardonnay Casablanca Valley 2008 13.5% £7.49

Once again Ventisquero manage to produce a winner at every price level. This tropical-fruit Chardonnay with a soft, satisying oaky flavour is really a classic New World style and quite a favourite of Mrs Hughes whom I must keep happy at all costs!

Ventisquero Reserva Chilean Sauvignon Blanc 2009

Ventisquero Reserva Chilean Sauvignon Blanc 2009 13% £7.49

Having been so impressed with Ventisquero's Gran Reserva range I was delighted to taste their 'simple' Reservas. This Sauvignon Blanc could easily be mistaken for a serious Sancerre at well over a tenner. It is more restrained and minerally than the Gran Reserva which is much more concentrated gooseberries, but still packs a slug of tropical Sauvignon Blanc fruit.
Villa Conversino Bianco Umbria 2009

Villa Conversino Bianco Umbria 2009 12% £7.99

A lovely, soft and creamy blend of Grechetto and Trebbiano grapes. No oak ageing here, just great mouthfeel and a hint of almonds.
Grechetto (Colli Martani) 2009 Di Filippo

Grechetto (Colli Martani) 2009 Di Filippo 13.5% £8.99

Like Gavi di Gavi? Well try this. 100% varietal Grechetto. Ever had one before? It's the beautifully creamy texture that really grabs me. Rich enough to drink with red meat in my humble opinion! Really a very more-ish and satisfying white.
Villa Conversino Rosato Umbria 2009

Villa Conversino Rosato Umbria 2009 13.5% £8.99

Lovely strawberry pink colour and flavour. Refreshingly appropriate for the coming summer.
Villa Conversino Rosso Umbria 2009

Villa Conversino Rosso Umbria 2009 13.5% £8.99

Mainly lovely soft and fruity Sangiovese with the addition of Cabernet Sauvignon to give it a bit more grip. Made from organically-grown grapes.
