El Huique Cabernet Sauvignon Colchagua Valley 2008

El Huique Cabernet Sauvignon Colchagua Valley 2008 14% £5.99

Sorry, just out of stock, but new shipment arriving in next ten days. On the back of the phenominal success of el Huique's oak-aged Reserva reds, I've been seduced also by the purity and depth of fruit of their unoaked reds as well. Here's the Cabernet  Sauvignon; deep, concentrated colour and all the cassis fruit that goes with it. A great example of El Huique's ability to produce characterful wines at great prices.

Louis Fabre Merlot 2008 VdP Oc 13.5%

Louis Fabre Merlot 2008 VdP Oc 13.5% £5.99

The previous 2007 vintage was voted in the Top 100 Vins de Pays blind tasting in the UK last year so Louis Fabre has a double accolade with his Sauvignon Blanc which also made the Top 100. Classic soft, smooth plummy Merlot showing a nice deep colour and enough grip to go well with a meal as well as being great on its own. This 2008 is bursting with youthful, vibrant fruit. Caliterra Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Caliterra Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 £6.99

From the warm slope of the Colchagua Valley the grapes for this wine are harvested at optimum ripeness.  This wine has a wonderful smooth character with notes of plum and fresh mulberry.  An excellent all-rounder, ideal with a variety of meat and vegetable dishes.
El Huique Chilean Carmenere Reserva 2004 14.5%

El Huique Chilean Carmenere Reserva 2004 14.5% £6.99

Recommended in BBC Olive magazine; 'keynote spiciness of the Carmenere grape alongside dark plum fruit'. We are the first to ship the wonderful wines from El Huique (pronounced "Weekeh") into the UK. This particularly lovely Carmenere has been aged for 6 months in french oak barrels and displays smooth, velvety tannins and rich spicy fruit.
Negro Amaro 2009 Pietraluna

Negro Amaro 2009 Pietraluna 13% £6.99

It seems so long since we last had Negro Amaro on the list and finally it's back. Not the identical wine to the one we had before, but from the same vineyard; 100% Negro Amaro grapes, 45 year-old vines grown in the 'heel' of Italy and producing this rich, smooth and fruity red which will make your Spag Bol go down a treat! Not bad with a Pizza Quattro Stagione, either.
All this for £6.99? Must be mad.

Robe Umbrian Sangiovese 2008

Robe Umbrian Sangiovese 2008 14% £6.99

From Roberto's organic vineyards comes this great red. Softly displaying its predominantly Sangiovese characteristics which are a lovely purity of plummy fruit liked a good Chianti but better (in my humble...) and elegant tannins then a short while in oak to add an extra something, but not heavy oak characters. Great value for money and a wine to enjoy on its own as well as with a good plate of Italian food. Approximately 85% Sangiovese with a cheeky 15% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Ventisquero Chilean Merlot Maipo Valley 2008

Ventisquero Chilean Merlot Maipo Valley 2008 13.5% £7.49

Simply another great wine from this dynamic producer. Black cherry and plum fruit flavours with a soft vanilla from the aging in American oak barrels. Particularly good value for money. Drink now to 2011
Rioja 2007 “Cantiga” from Miguel Merino

Rioja 2007 “Cantiga” from Miguel Merino £7.75

A younger style aged for 5 months in oak barrels. Displays nice soft oak characters with good fruit. A great way to get into Rioja if you prefer a slightly less oaky, and slightly more fruity style.
