Excelsior Merlot South Africa
Like its white cousin, this is a great party wine and goes well with most foods or just on its own. Rich, juicy Merlot from a favourite Estate of ours. Much recommended by Real Wine Co customers.
45% of the blend was aged in french and american oak barrels for six months. The wine is exceptionally concentrated and fruity.Merlot

Excelsior “Paddock” Shiraz South Africa
This is widely regarded as the El Nino year in South Africa. The summer was hotter and riper than normal which required some adaptation in the vineyards to ensure a quality grape harvest. Grapes were harvested earlier than normal to ensure that there was freshness in the wines. The positive aspect of the drought was a very healthy crop with good concentration. The red wines from 2017 are rich and very structured.
30% of the wine was aged in french and american oak barrels for 8 months.Spicy and dried herbs, every bit a Shiraz but with more restraint and structure than an Aussie Shiraz of the same price (in my humble opinion). Good spice and tannins make it good with food but it’s still soft enough to enjoy on its own. Maybe it’s the 15% of Petit Verdot in the blend which elevates it from the norm?Shiraz/Syrah

Excelsior Purebred Red South Africa
From a great Estate in Robertson Shiraz Vines and Merlot combine together with a hint of oak, but mainly left to settle and rest in tank for nine months before release. Blackcurrants, cherries and spices. This is a soft and smooth wine very easy to drink on its own.

Myburgh & Milner “Privateer” Cabernet Franc/Merlot De Meye Stellenbosch
Marcus Milner and Philip Myburgh decided to jointly create a blend which encapsulates a bit of fun, fruit, sun and this Cabernet Franc/ Merlot blend does just that. It’s a serious Stellenbosch creation with good grip and depth, but elegant – not too heavy. Goes well with both full-flavoured food as well as lighter dishes.

A Vue de Nez (no added sulphur) by Jeff Carrel Organic Red
Firstly – organic and with no added sulphur. Secondly – it’s a lovely smooth and fruity expression of grassy Cabernet Franc with a dollop of Syrah to beef it up. Also it has a clutch of Gold Medals and 90/100 from American Wine Guru Robert Parker.

Chateau Lamothe-Vincent Bordeaux Superieur Heritage Red
The classic Bordeaux blend, of course, is Cabernet/Merlot, and here we have a classic indeed, but with 80% Merlot. Very St-Emilion-esque! Multiple-Gold-Medal winner, this “Heritage” cuvee has been aged in French oak barrels for 12 months and is quite simply as typical a claret as you could wish for at a very affordable price. Drink now to 2024.

Brunelli Ripasso “Pa’Riondo”
This is a serious contender for the Hughes Family Turkey Dinner Red.
Rich, complex but very silky textures make this a delight. The Ripasso technique consists in refermenting a Valpolicella on the sugars and yeast-rich grape skins of the area’s top wine, Amarone.
This results in the wine becoming full-bodied, with a great concentration of colour and perfume.Corvina Veronese 65%, Rondinella 25%, Corvinone 10%.

“The Prince” from The Treaty Port Estate China
From a vineyard established in 2005 on the Shandong peninsula by Chris Ruffle comes his unique, gold-medal winning, Petit Verdot/Arinarnoa blend. Gently oaky, this is a lovely clean, velvety red from one of the world’s new emerging vineyard areas. The Prince rather liked braised pork and Beijing roast duck, could go rather well with this wine!
