Laurent Miquel Solas Pinot Noir
Lovely soft, yet food-friendly version of this classic red grape. Medium-bodied and bursting with red berry flavours. Hints of spices and rosemary? 20% aged in 1-2 year old barrels for 6 months to raise the complexity of the wine.Pinot NoirSoft & Smooth RedsFrance2019750 ml13-13.5%
Domaine de Cray Sauvignon de Touraine
I went to the Wine Fair in Paris in February to hunt out a Loire Sauvignon Blanc. After much tasting )over 100) found a firm favourite in Domaine de Cray.
Sauvignon Blanc can often be quite sharp, especially from a so-called “cool” climate region like the Loire Valley. So imagine my pleasure after many, many slurps of quite sharp and acidic versions this lovely softer Sauvignon tickled my palate. No compromise on the flavour, nor on the freshness and summeriness, but nice and round. A beaut for the summer.Sauvignon BlancDry & Soft WhitesLight & FruityUnoaked WhitesFrance2019750 ml13-13.5%
Domaine de Cray Touraine Rouge
I went to the Wine Fair in Paris in February to hunt out a Loire Sauvignon Blanc. After much tasting found a firm favourite in Domaine de Cray. As luck would have it, they also produce this very classic Loire red made from 50% Gamay (as in Beaujolais), 30% Cabernet Franc, and 20% Cot. It’s fresh, it’s light and combines hints of freshly mown grass from the Cabernet with the parma violets from the Gamay. A really super summer wine with great complexity.Red BlendsLight RedsFrance2018750 ml13-13.5%
Chateau Lamothe-Vincent Bordeaux Superieur “Libertae” No added Sulphur
With 75% rich, supple, smooth Merlot backed-up by (frankly rare) Malbec this sulphur-free addition to The Lamothe-Vinvent range yet again breaks new ground.
First of all it’s just simply a really good claret! But the work needed to allow a fine wine to show its best without the addition of any SO2 at all is a testament to the skills of the winemaker and the philosophy whch runs through the Chateau from top to bottom.Red BlendsFrance2018750 ml14%+
Plein la Vue Organic Sauvignon Blanc by Jeff Carrel
I selected this wine first and foremost because it’s a lovely mouth-filling Sauvignon Blanc, fat and fruity -no edge to it. A happy extra is that it’s a slight 12.5% alcohol and it’s certified organic. What’s not to like?Sauvignon BlancDry & Soft WhitesFrance2019750 ml11%-12.5%
Domaine de Cray Touraine Rose

La Bette Cotes du Roussillon Villages Red by Jeff Carrel
Big, deep colour, good grip due in part to 65% Syrah in the blend but also to Jeff’s preferred style of reds which retain those firm tannins and acidity making them great food wines.Red BlendsRich & Fruity RedsFrance2017750 ml14%+
Domaine d’Ansignan “Les Grenadines” by Jeff Carrel
Never say never…I wasn’t convinced by the pre-taste description, but why worry? If Jeff makes it chances are it’ll be a cracker. Guess what? I loved it.
It’s somewhere between a light red (Beaujolais Nouveau) and a Rose. Drink it nicely chilled and enjoy the cherry, redcurrant, strawberry flavours resulting from the blend of Grenache / Maccabeu / Carignan / Syrah / Pellut. Just perfect for the summer.
Les Grenadines comes from the fact that they are planting pomegranate trees next to the vineyard.Red BlendsLight RedsFrance2020750 ml13-13.5%
Chateau Lamothe-Vincent Heritage White
Now we have the full range of Lamothe-Vincent’s great Bordeaux. This Sauvignon Blanc blend has been aged in barrels for a brief time and the resultant wine is full and rich but not obviously oaky. Lovely food wine, but also great on its own.Sauvignon BlancOakey WhitesFrance2018750 ml11%-12.5%
Morillon Blanc by Jeff Carrel
A trusted old friend….rich, fat, with just a hint of oak….I put this in the category of White Burgundy look-alikes. Not the lean Chablis style, but the richer Macon end of Burgundy. Grapes with a touch of botrytis (noble rot) make this a soft, satisfying white. Drink now to end 2022ChardonnayRich WhitesFrance2018750 ml14%+
Abbotts & Delaunay Minervois
A blend of Carignan and Syrah which really showcases one of the Languedoc’s fine range of regional appellations. 40% of the handpicked grapes are aged in oak following fermentation. The result is a fat, structured red but it’s not “in your face” it’s really very nicely balanced.Red BlendsBig & Robust RedsFrance2017750 ml14%+
