    Laurent Miquel Nord/Sud Viognier

    100% Viognier and all the rich, almost oily texture that goes with it. 30% of the blend was aged in oak for 3 months so what you get is a bit of extra body and structure but no obvious oaky flavours.

  • Morillon Blanc by Jeff Carrel

    A trusted old friend….rich, fat, with just a hint of oak….I put this in the category of White Burgundy look-alikes. Not the lean Chablis style, but the richer Macon end of Burgundy. Grapes with a touch of botrytis (noble rot) make this a soft, satisfying white.

    Les Darons by Jeff Carrel

    Big, soft red, yet good acidity makes this a great food wine as well as one to drink on its own. A great example of southern french red wine, bursting with peppery tannins and earthy fruit.

  • Château d’Or et de Gueules “Mon fut c’est du poulet?”

    Diane’s husband, Matthieu, demonstrates both his fine winemaking skills as well as his sense of humour with this wine. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin;
    Matthieu devised a special cuvee, just one barrel, to mark the birth of his baby five years ago. Whist he was away on business one day, Diane unwittingly blended the barrel together with others destined to be the Trassegum Red final blend.
    “Your’e kidding me?!!” said Matthieu on learning his barrel was gone. Translated from “Mon cul, c’est du poulet?” in French. In order not to offend sensitivities he replaced the vulgar “cul” (arse) with “fut” (barrel), and so the fith vintage of this birthday wine is Matthieu’s finest so far in his opinion. Lovely sort, round, fleshy Syrah with easy oak undertones.

  • Chateau Lamothe-Vincent Bordeaux Superieur Heritage Red

    The classic Bordeaux blend, of course, is Cabernet/Merlot, and here we have a classic indeed, but with 80% Merlot. Very St-Emilion-esque! Multiple-Gold-Medal winner, this “Heritage” cuvee has been aged in French oak barrels for 12 months and is quite simply as typical a claret as you could wish for at a very affordable price. • Domaine de Cray Cremant de Loire

    I went to the Wine Fair in Paris in February to hunt out a Loire Sauvignon Blanc. After much tasting found a firm favourite in Domaine de Cray. As luck would have it, they also produce this very smart fizz. Made by the “Champagne” method with two years’ aging on the lees before disgorging.

    Brought in following the runaway success of the “Haedus”…let’s try the others! Naos is the epitome. Great on its own by, by gum, it goes well with food! With each little step up in price you get a leap in quality! This might be “just a Rosé” but it really is an elegant quality wine.”

  • Château d’Or et de Gueules ‘Trassegum’ Red

    Château d’Or et de Gueules ‘Trassegum’ Red

    Selected from the best parts of the vineyard, this is a blend of Syrah, Carignan and Mourverdre. Each varietal is kept apart and aged in 500 litre oak barrels for 12 months. Only then do they decide upon the final blend. Once made, the finished wine is aged for yet another 12 months in those same barrels before bottling. Only 10% of the barrels are new wood, so there’s no “in your face ” oakiness here!
    Diane only releases this wine if she feels it is up to her highest standards of quality. So, no 2002 vintage ‘ it was all sold off in bulk to the ‘négociants’. The 2003 vintage was a cracker. No 2004 vintage either; that, too, was not good enough, the 2005, 2007 and 2009s brilliant…as was the 2011.
    And then along came the equally scrumptious 2103, and the super 2015 and now the fab 2016. What more can I say? Drink now to 2026 (really!)
