Herbert Zillinger Gruner Veltliner “Horizont”
I have nothing to add to Jancis Robinson’s tasting note;
“Delightfully rich on the nose and then chalky texture on the finish. Chock full of extract and flavour. Extremely satisfying. Strong cinnamon and ginger notes on the end. Excellent acidity too. Extremely persistent. This would cost only about €10 in Austria. VGV 12.5% Drink 2020–2024

Domaine de la Pigeade Muscat de Beaumes de Venise
The southern Rhone is probably best known for its reds such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas …..and Vacqueyras. But they also make one of the best dessert wines around and here’s a pretty smart one! Deliciously grapey, fleshy, fragrant Muscat grapes have the fermentation stopped by the addition of alcohol leaving the wine naturally sweet. The Domaine recommends it be drunk very cold not only as a dessert wine with, say, chocolate fondant but also with blue cheese or even with foie gras to start with.

Herbert Zillinger Gruner Veltliner “Vogelsang”
Ripe stone fruit notes bring the fruit into play. Enormous spice makes this Veltliner a typical representative of its class. A hint of pepper rounds it off perfectly – quite a classic, it is not afraid of appearing with salads, fish and white meat.

I Ciacca “Nostalgia” Maturano White from Lazio
I Ciacca “Nostalgia” Maturano
Once in a while a wine insists you must buy it, here’s one. Rich, fat, mouth-filling, complex, creamy and the most beautiful colour you’ll ever see on a white wine. A truly top class Italian white.
Ever heard of the “Maturano” grape variety? Nor I.
The Di Ciacca family, a third-generation Scots-Italian clan, has been working to bring this indigenous, organically-grown grape variety back to life on the family’s estate in Picinisco, in Lazio.
Italian consultant Alberto Antonini (named as one of the world’s top 5 winemakers by his peers) is guiding Di Ciacca’s Maturano mission.

Miguel Merino Blanco
Only 1188 bottles produced in 2016. Miguel Merino Blanco comes from two very special vineyards: La Loma (planted in 1946) and Mingortiz (planted in 1977). In
La Loma vineyard (1,4 hectares at 534 metres of altitude), apart from the red Tempranillo and Garnacha vines we have a little
treasure: a few vines of Garnacha Blanca that give us grapes of floral aromas, great complexity, body and deepness. Mingortiz is
a 0,74 hectare slope facing East; only at the top end of the vineyard there are some Viura vines (0,20 ha). Up there, the soil is
shallow, with great drainage and calcareous and clay composition. Its location, sun exposure and soil make this vineyard ideal to
provide fresh and mineral Viura grapes.The grapes were harvested by hand early in the morning and then taken to the winery in small crates, where they were selected
and pressed. After a 24h settling the must was racked into 4 500-litre barrels of French oak, where they went through the alcoholic
fermentation.Other Single Varietal White

Herbert Zillinger Radikal Gruner Veltliner – Quote of the Year – “Masterful”
I have nothing to add to Jancis Robinson’s tasting note;
“Selection of their oldest vines from the best vineyards of both Ebenthal and Ollersdorf. ‘A wine that combines both the advantages of loess soil and limestone.’ The must runs directly from the press into the large wooden barrel and is aged there on yeast lees for a year. One year in barrel, one year in bottle. ‘For us from the barren year of 2017 probably our most complete and possibly best wine so far.’ Very heady on the nose but lively and fresh on the palate. Lots of energy and intensity. Really bounces around the palate on the finish. So ripe you might think it was going to be a little sweet but it’s not at all. Such excitement. Long and dense but with lift too. Masterful. 13.5% Drink 2020–2028
