“The Prince” from The Treaty Port Estate China
From a vineyard established in 2005 on the Shandong peninsula by Chris Ruffle comes his unique, gold-medal winning, Petit Verdot/Arinarnoa blend. Gently oaky, this is a lovely clean, velvety red from one of the world’s new emerging vineyard areas. The Prince rather liked braised pork and Beijing roast duck, could go rather well with this wine!Red BlendsOakey RedsChina2016750 ml14%+

Château d’Or et de Gueules “Mon fut c’est du poulet?”
Diane’s husband, Matthieu, demonstrates both his fine winemaking skills as well as his sense of humour with this wine. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin;
Matthieu devised a special cuvee, just one barrel, to mark the birth of his baby five years ago. Whist he was away on business one day, Diane unwittingly blended the barrel together with others destined to be the Trassegum Red final blend.
“Your’e kidding me?!!” said Matthieu on learning his barrel was gone. Translated from “Mon cul, c’est du poulet?” in French. In order not to offend sensitivities he replaced the vulgar “cul” (arse) with “fut” (barrel), and so the fith vintage of this birthday wine is Matthieu’s finest so far in his opinion. Lovely sort, round, fleshy Syrah with easy oak undertones.Shiraz/SyrahBig & Robust RedsFrance2016750 ml13-13.5%
Quinta de San Francisco Portuguese Red
Single Estate red from the Obidos region. Castelão (60%), Aragonez (20%),Touriga Nacional (20%) are aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels. This was my pick of the family’s three estate wines. Maybe it’s the Touriga Nacional which gives it an almost violet fruit over and above the soft, oakiness. It has won Gold at four separate competitions this year.Red BlendsOakey RedsPortugal2017750 ml13-13.5%

Pinot Noir by Jeff Carrel
Light colour as you’d expect from cool climate Pinot Noir. Grown in the south of France, yes, but in high altitude vineyards which are cool. Developed by Jeff with one of his best mates from Burgundy to produce a light burgundy-style red.Pinot NoirLight RedsFrance2016750 ml11%-12.5%

Chateau Lamothe-Vincent Bordeaux Superieur Heritage Red
The classic Bordeaux blend, of course, is Cabernet/Merlot, and here we have a classic indeed, but with 80% Merlot. Very St-Emilion-esque! Multiple-Gold-Medal winner, this “Heritage” cuvee has been aged in French oak barrels for 12 months and is quite simply as typical a claret as you could wish for at a very affordable price. Drink now to 2024.

“The Inspector General” from The Treaty Port Estate China
From a vineyard established in 2005 on the Shandong peninsula by Chris Ruffle comes this classic Bordeaux blend, aged in french oak barrels and displaying ripe, dark fruits and a hint of vanilla oak. No surprise that Chateau Lafite chose to make their first Chinese wine, Long Dai 2017, from neigbouring fields! Chris’s vines are older, of course, and 2014 was an excellent vintage. This is a limited release of 5000 bottles.Red BlendsOakey RedsChina2014750 ml13-13.5%
