  • Domaine de Cray Sauvignon de Touraine

I went to the Wine Fair in Paris in February to hunt out a Loire Sauvignon Blanc. After much tasting )over 100) found a firm favourite in Domaine de Cray.

Sauvignon Blanc can often be quite sharp, especially from a so-called “cool” climate region like the Loire Valley. So imagine my pleasure after many, many¬† slurps of quite sharp and acidic versions this lovely softer Sauvignon tickled my palate. No compromise on the flavour, nor on the freshness and summeriness, but nice and round. A beaut for the summer.

  • Domaine Laffitte Gros Manseng/Petit Manseng Dessert Wine

Really lovely spicey pudding wine from Gascony. Gros & Petit Manseng blend. However, I could probably sip my way through it on a hat summer’s day all on its own.

  • Brunelli Bianco di Custoza

Bianco di Custoza has long been on of my favourite white Italian wines. Situated on the sunny shores of Lake Garda it is a blend of Trebbiano, Garganega, Cortese, Riesling and Malvasia grapes. The resultant wine is soft and creamywith a lingering minerally finish. Yummy!

  • Laurent Miquel Solas Chardonnay (oaked)

    Laurent Miquel Solas Chardonnay (oaked)

60% of the blend was aged in oak barrels for 4 months, so there’s a clean but subtle hint of oak, not a heavy oak at all. Another great example of why we should love Chardonnay!

    Laurent Miquel Cru Solas Albarino

Albarino was first brought to Galicia in Spain by French monks from Cluny along the fabled Santiago de Compostela route many centuries ago.
Now it’s returned to this high altitude estate in France, and how! It’s rich, it’s crisp it’s balanced, it’s different, it’s lovely!

Now it’s returned to France, and you can enjoy this lovely soft yet balanced version. No oak, not acidic, just creamy, easy texture. My mate Gill will love this one!

100% Viognier and all the rich, almost oily texture that goes with it. 30% of the blend was aged in oak for 3 months so what you get is a bit of extra body and structure but no obvious oaky flavours.

  • Mooi Bly Chenin Blanc

The return of an old friend. Erik & Liesbet’s Chenin Blanc was the only one to hit the spot for me when we first visited South Africa. This new 2019 vintage is in. Hues of fresh, green edges make the colour very inviting. The nose is almost spicy and minerally at the same time. The palate is complex; dry and minerally but still quite rich. A very satisfying white wine.
