Trisole Grillo di Sicilia -One of our 12 Wines of Christmas
I am really enjoying the fresh, tropical fruity, citrus flavours of this Sicilian white varietal. Grapefruit was my first note, but soft not sharp, then it ends with a nice, almost bitter finish. A lovely new addition to our range and only 12.5% ABV

Villa des Anges Reserve Red -One of our 12 Wines of Christmas
One of those wines which make you stop in your wine-tasting tracks. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot (roughly a third of each) has been aged for 14 months in tanks with oak staves (!) before bottling. It’s enough to make you wonder whether or not you want to buy expensive claret again!
Jeff says; “La bouche est élancée, tendue par une fine acidité inflexible, mais enrobée par une matière ronde, veloutée, charmeuse. L’aromatique mêle la crème de mûre aux épices grillées et la vanille.” and who am I to argue?

Cazas Novas Avesso “Colheita” – One of our 12 Wines of Christmas
The second of our new wines just arrived in from Christiana at Carneiro Estate. This is 100% Alvarinho but still classified as We are excited to introduce a trio of super wines all from Cazas Novas in the north of Portugal, all made by Wimemaker of the Year, Diogo Lopes, and all made from the Avesso grape variety which is rapidly gaining kudos in Portugal. Wines made from the hand-picked grapes are aged sur lies for 4 months with “batonnage”.
Fresh and crisp but with good structure and minerality. If you like Verus wines you’ll like this, I’m sure.Other Single Varietal White

NEW – Kinisia Merlot/Nero d’Avola di Sicilia -One of our 12 Wines of Christmas
This is a really successful blend of Nero d’Avola and Merlot bringing out the best of both varietals in a wine that is better than the sum of its two parts. The lovely rich but slighly light NdA bulked up by rich and soft Merlot. This differs from the Passole in that it is predominantly Merlot backed up by NdA rather than the other way round. Then it spends eight months in oak barrels giving it a lovely, spicey and elegant texture. I’m getting blackcurrants and lots of chocolate!

Anarkos Rosso di Puglia – One of our 12 Wines of Christmas
Anarkos Rosso di Puglia
The label is attention-seeking, as is the bright red plastic cork (not my favourite closure, I must admit, but the wine insisted I buy it! The wine has attitude and is a provocative one, railing against the plight of the region (see their website). The region reminds me of the Languedoc in France – loads of rubbish wines but increasing numbers of fanatics making really top wines as they should be made. This was one of my favourite winery visits af the last few years. The wine is made from a blend of the local varieties Primitivo, Negro Amaro and Malvasia Nera and should be consumed in conspiratorial bars in the south of Italy with huge helpings of pasta.
Previous vintages recommended; Recommended in The Daily Telegraph: “another one of Mark Hughes’ brilliant finds. Absolutely delicious blend of Primitivo, Negro Amaro and Malvasia. Lush and plush like velvet, also juicy, scented, intense, rich brimming with the smell of violets, deep purple plums and bitter cherries. Such a joy!
Recommended by Oz Clarke as one of his 250 best wines of 2012: “an excellent example of how southern Italian reds are starting to express their own fabulous originality. It’s bulging with youth and it’s soft, yet tempered by a nice edgy bitterness.”Other Single Varietal Red

Blanquette de Limoux Domaine Rosier- One of our 12 Wines of Christmas
My favourite Blanquette de Limoux from over 200 tasted at the Vinisud Trade Wine Fair a couple of years back. Blanquette de Limoux differs from Cremant basically in the grapes used; in this case Mauzac and Chardonnay. It has been lees aged for 12 months and is a lovely clean, creamy style. The Rosier family is rightly proud of this, their top cuvee.

Jean Michel Dupré Beaujolais Villages Blanc La Ronze Blanche 2022 -One of our 12 Wines of Christmas
A hugely exciting new range of Cru Beaujolais specially brought in to give us all a vinous Christmas treat, but don’t wait for Christmas.
There’s a nice straw colour and a lemony nose, maybe a hint of caramel and citrus fruits. The palate is lean and minerally which to me is more reminiscent of a steely Chablis than a fat Macon so it goes really well with fruits de mer, fish dishes or just on its own as an apéro!
One third of the blend was aged in barrels for four months. So it’s not oaky, just rounded-out.

Muscat de Beaumes de Venise -One of our 12 Wines of Christmas
A new find from a stylish property in the Rhone Valley. This is a deliciously grapey, muscatty, warming pud wine. Perfect for having around at Christmas, but personally,I’d have a bottle permanently in the fridge all year round.

Fellone Primitivo di Puglia -One of our 12 Wines of Christmas
Maybe one for sipping into the early hours after all your virtual guests have switched-off……
If you thought Anarkos was good, then here’s his big, big brother! Simply put, this red wine is delicious and if ever you doubted you would spend over £20 a bottle on a red wine from southern Italy, then doubt no more.
Drink now to end 2030.

Champagne Marc Chauvet Brut Tradition -One of our 12 Wines of Christmas
Really! Honestly! Go no farther than Marc Chauvet for your Champagne. If you don’t want to spend £29.50, then try Blanquette de Limoux, but please don’t resort to cheap Champagne!
To my mind Clotilde’s latest cuvee is her best yet! Soft, full, biscuity and long-lasting (in the palate, that is – I suspect the bottle will be polished off very quickly!)

A previous cuvee was also in Oz Clarke’s 250 Best Wines of 2011: “a fascinating wine,” and recommended by Victoria Moore in The Daily Telegraph November 2010: “delicious.”
and recommended in The Guardian May 2010: “impressive.”
