This beautiful Rhône-style blend is the newest addition to the Vrede en Lust range. The vineyard development at Vrede en Lust over the past couple of years included the planting of Grenache and Viognier, giving them scope to produce more Rhône-style red wines. The wine was originally named after Jacques de Savoye as a tribute to the first owner of the property in 1688. In 2020 the wine was renamed Ella, after the owner’s youngest daughter. Grenache 73%, Shiraz 22%, Viognier 5% . Enjoy now or within 10 years from vintage.

Vrede en Lust was founded in 1688 by a Flemish Merchant called Jacques de Savoye. The Governor of the Cape allocated this farm to De Savoye, who fled Europe with his wife, Marie-Madeleine le Clerq, due to religious persecution. After 70 days at sea, they arrived in Table Bay on 26 April 1688 on the 160ft Oosterland. He called his farm Vrede en Lust (Peace and Delight/Eagerness), nurturing visions of a rural paradise where he could spend his last days. He immediately started improving the 55 Ha of land that starts at the Bergrivier valley floor and runs up the eastern foothills of the majestic Simonsberg Mountain. In 1996, when the Buys family became the 17th owners, they embarked on a programme of renewal to fully realise the exceptional winemaking potential of the land. Today this breathtakingly modern wine farm, a family owned and managed wine business, is a tribute to its noble roots and continues to build on over 335 years of history and heritage.
