The Kogelberg Chenin Blanc is from a registered single vineyard named after the Kogelberg block from the Elgin farm, Casey’s Ridge, belonging to Vrede en Lust. The first bottling of a single varietal Chenin Blanc was in 2011 and received a Gold Michelangelo Award just prior to its release. As far as could be established, this wine was the first single vineyard Chenin Blanc produced from fruit certified as a wine of origin Elgin. Chenin Blanc 100%. Enjoy now or within 10 years from vintage.

Vrede en Lust was founded in 1688 by a Flemish Merchant called Jacques de Savoye. The Governor of the Cape allocated this farm to De Savoye, who fled Europe with his wife, Marie-Madeleine le Clerq, due to religious persecution. After 70 days at sea, they arrived in Table Bay on 26 April 1688 on the 160ft Oosterland. He called his farm Vrede en Lust (Peace and Delight/Eagerness), nurturing visions of a rural paradise where he could spend his last days. He immediately started improving the 55 Ha of land that starts at the Bergrivier valley floor and runs up the eastern foothills of the majestic Simonsberg Mountain. In 1996, when the Buys family became the 17th owners, they embarked on a programme of renewal to fully realise the exceptional winemaking potential of the land. Today this breathtakingly modern wine farm, a family owned and managed wine business, is a tribute to its noble roots and continues to build on over 335 years of history and heritage.
