Herbert Zillinger Gruner Veltliner “Neuland” Sorry – OOS until new vintage comes in.
Herbert Zillinger Gruner Veltliner “Neuland”
In addition to the notes below, also recommended by Jancis Robinson in the FT 5th Dec 2020;
2019 was a great year for Austrian whites and this has a remarkable concentration of spicy flavour and fruit for a wine with only 11.5% alcohol. Great value for a pure cocktail of flowers and white pepper.
I have nothing to add to Jancis Robinson’s tasting note;
“Remarkably intense, pungent nose for an 11.5% wine. Deep golden colour. Really concentrated fruit flavour with none of the fermentation aromas that can mark some young Grüners. Lots of extract and a pure cocktail of flowers and white pepper. VVGV

Herbert Zillinger Gruner Veltliner “Horizont”
I have nothing to add to Jancis Robinson’s tasting note;
“Delightfully rich on the nose and then chalky texture on the finish. Chock full of extract and flavour. Extremely satisfying. Strong cinnamon and ginger notes on the end. Excellent acidity too. Extremely persistent. This would cost only about €10 in Austria. VGV 12.5% Drink 2020–2024

Herbert Zillinger Gruner Veltliner “Vogelsang”
Ripe stone fruit notes bring the fruit into play. Enormous spice makes this Veltliner a typical representative of its class. A hint of pepper rounds it off perfectly – quite a classic, it is not afraid of appearing with salads, fish and white meat.

Herbert Zillinger Radikal Gruner Veltliner – Quote of the Year – “Masterful”
I have nothing to add to Jancis Robinson’s tasting note;
“Selection of their oldest vines from the best vineyards of both Ebenthal and Ollersdorf. ‘A wine that combines both the advantages of loess soil and limestone.’ The must runs directly from the press into the large wooden barrel and is aged there on yeast lees for a year. One year in barrel, one year in bottle. ‘For us from the barren year of 2017 probably our most complete and possibly best wine so far.’ Very heady on the nose but lively and fresh on the palate. Lots of energy and intensity. Really bounces around the palate on the finish. So ripe you might think it was going to be a little sweet but it’s not at all. Such excitement. Long and dense but with lift too. Masterful. 13.5% Drink 2020–2028
