  • Sacchetto, Prosecco Colli Trevigiani Frizzante, Italy

Recommended in the Daily Telegraph: “highly drinkable, a great pick-me-up.”
Perfect party wine! Selected here to be a very different alternative to Champagne in every way; it is semi-sparkling so does not attract the higher Sparkling Duty rate. Prosecco grape is very much a light, fruity, versatile wine. Perfect also as a pre-dinner aperitif. Paolo Sacchetto’s Estate in the north east of Italy produces a range of wines, but this Prosecco is the one which stood out for me. Dry and fruity.

  • Domaine Rosier, Blanquette de Limoux, France

My favourite Blanquette de Limoux from over 200 tasted at the Vinisud Trade Wine Fair a couple of years back. Blanquette de Limoux differs from Cremant basically in the grapes used; in this case Mauzac and Chardonnay. It has been lees aged for 12 months and is a lovely clean, creamy style. The Rosier family is rightly proud of this, their top cuvee.

Top of the range Prosecco from Paolo Sacchetto’s (even higher quality) DOCG Valdobbiadene, and single vineyard Col de l’Utia. This Vintage Prosecco will compare very confidently with any Champagne under £20!

  • Marc Chauvet, Champagne Brut Tradition, France

Really! Honestly! Go no farther than Marc Chauvet for your Champagne. If you don’t want to spend £29.50, then try Blanquette de Limoux, but please don’t resort to cheap Champagne!

To my mind Clotilde’s latest cuvee is her best yet! Soft, full, biscuity and long-lasting (in the palate, that is – I suspect the bottle will be polished off very quickly!)

o 1/3 each Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier
    o 2/3 2015 vintage, 1/3 reserve wine
    o Dosage 12gms
o Disgorged in after 3 years sur lattes

    Previous years’ accolades;

Top 12 Fizzes for Christmas 2012 Daily Telegraph -“”Warm in style, nicely biscuity, with personality but one that will please a variety of tastes. Very box office.”

A previous cuvee was also in Oz Clarke’s 250 Best Wines of 2011: “a fascinating wine,” and recommended by Victoria Moore in The Daily Telegraph November 2010: “delicious.”

and recommended in The Guardian May 2010: “impressive.”

  • Marc Chauvet, Champagne Vintage 2016, France

You would have to spend a lot more money (probably £75-100) to find a wine as good as this with a famous name!

  • Marc Chauvet Champagne ‘Initiales’ 2012 Vintage, France

Very simply, when the very best Champagne producer (in my opinion) produces what she considers to be her top of the range…..well, why wouldn’t you want some?

……and when you consider that big brand Moet & Chandon was £43 in Tesco when I last checked, isn’t this a no-brainer?

Clotilde says; L’année 2012 a été marquée par des conditions difficiles mais il s’agit d’une vendange exceptionnelle, les vins sont vifs et marqués d’arômes de fruits blancs.
