Excelsior Merlot South Africa
Like its white cousin, this is a great party wine and goes well with most foods or just on its own. Rich, juicy Merlot from a favourite Estate of ours. Much recommended by Real Wine Co customers. 45% of the blend was aged in french and american oak barrels for six months. The wine is exceptionally concentrated and fruity.

Chateau Lamothe-Vincent Bordeaux Superieur Heritage Red
Gold Medal at Bordeaux
The classic Bordeaux blend, of course, is Cabernet/Merlot, and here we have a classic indeed, but with 80% Merlot. Very St-Emilion-esque! Multiple-Gold-Medal winner, this “Heritage” cuvee has been aged in French oak barrels for 12 months and is quite simply as typical a claret as you could wish for at a very affordable price.

Excelsior Gondolier Merlot
This Merlot pays homage to Gondolier, one of the most renowned thoroughbred racehorses bred at Excelsior. Six months after receiving extensive physiotherapy on an injury to his hind leg that had left him completely lame, Gondolier won the 1985 Durban July, South Africa’s most prestigious horse race. Today Gondolier is regarded as one of the legends of South African horse racing.
This Merlot comes from vines planted on calcareous soils and represent the best Merlot produced on Excelsior.
Deep ruby red colour with a black core. This wine is medium to full-bodied with aromas of blackcurrants, chocolate and earth. The wine has rich but exceptionally soft tannins and a long finish.

Case of six Chateau Lamothe-Vincent Le Grand Rossignol 2018 (Original Wooden Case)
A sort of Château Petrus vinous “tribute band”……A taste of £3000 wine for £25? Six fab bottles in their original wooden case.
I will be stashing away a dozen or so bottles to opened on my 75th birthday (10 years away!)
Gold Medal at the 2021 French International Wine Competition (amongst others). Fabien says;
“Deep black colour with purple tints. Powerful and complex bouquet of liquorice,
black cherry, blackberry, graphite, cedar, toast… Extremely rich though elegant, its
full, silky and coated tannins wrap you in softness. Mineral-toasty nuances on the
long finish. A pure expression of its rare origin.”Merlot
