Excelsior Merlot South Africa Sorry, OOS
Like its white cousin, this is a great party wine and goes well with most foods or just on its own. Rich, juicy Merlot from a favourite Estate of ours. Much recommended by Real Wine Co customers. 45% of the blend was aged in french and american oak barrels for six months. The wine is exceptionally concentrated and fruity.

Laurent Miquel Père et Fils Syrah/Grenache
Laurent Miquel Père et Fils Syrah/Grenache
70% Syrah and 30% Grenche – classic! I really love this easy, yet complex red. Hints of soft spices and licorice, very gluggable!

Les Darons by Jeff Carrel
Les Darons by Jeff Carrel
Big, soft red, yet good acidity makes this a great food wine as well as one to drink on its own. A great example of southern french red wine, bursting with peppery tannins and earthy fruit.

Abbotts & Delaunay Minervois
A blend of Carignan and Syrah which really showcases one of the Languedoc’s fine range of regional appellations. 40% of the handpicked grapes are aged in oak following fermentation. The result is a fat, structured red but it’s not “in your face” it’s really very nicely balanced.

Villa des Anges Reserve (Jeff)
One of those wines which make you stop in your wine-tasting tracks. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot (roughly a third of each) has been aged for 14 months in tanks with oak staves (!) before bottling. It’s enough to make you wonder whether or not you want to buy expensive claret again!

Château Lamothe-Vincent Bordeaux “Intense” Merlot
The classic Bordeaux blend, of course, is Cabernet/Merlot, and here we have a classic indeed. Merlot dominated, soft but very well-structured fruit. A clutch of Gold Medals again!

Chateau Lamothe-Vincent Bordeaux Superieur “Libertae” No added Sulphur
With 75% rich, supple, smooth Merlot backed-up by (frankly rare) Malbec this sulphur-free addition to The Lamothe-Vinvent range yet again breaks new ground.
First of all it’s just simply a really good claret! But the work needed to allow a fine wine to show its best without the addition of any SO2 at all is a testament to the skills of the winemaker and the philosophy whch runs through the Chateau from top to bottom.

Abbotts & Delaunay Cotes du Roussillon
A blend of Syrah and Grenache with a slug of “whole bunch” Carignan which once again showcases one of the Languedoc’s fine range of regional appellations. 40% of the handpicked grapes are aged in oak following fermentation. The result is a fat, structured red but it’s not “in your face” it’s really very nicely balanced.

La Bette Cotes du Roussillon Villages Red by Jeff Carrel
Big, deep colour, good grip due in part to 65% Syrah in the blend but also to Jeff’s preferred style of reds which retain those firm tannins and acidity making them great food wines.

“The Prince” from The Treaty Port Estate China
From a vineyard established in 2005 on the Shandong peninsula by Chris Ruffle comes his unique, gold-medal winning, Petit Verdot/Arinarnoa blend. Gently oaky, this is a lovely clean, velvety red from one of the world’s new emerging vineyard areas. The Prince rather liked braised pork and Beijing roast duck, could go rather well with this wine!

Morillon Blanc by Jeff Carrel
A trusted old friend….rich, fat, with just a hint of oak….I put this in the category of White Burgundy look-alikes. Not the lean Chablis style, but the richer Macon end of Burgundy. Grapes with a touch of botrytis (noble rot) make this a soft, satisfying white.
