Carneiro Estate, Luz Vinho Verde, Portugal
Christiana only makes two wines – there’s specialisation for you. Both are Vinho Verde and this is the classic one. Made from a blend of Azal and Loureiro grapes ( who ever heard of those?) this is light and refreshing. Fruity with a hint of bitterness. A still wine but with a zing of natural spritz which characterizes a good Vinho Verde. This spritz does dissipate after a while, though. Great summer wine.

Domaine Laffitte, Gros Manseng/Petit Manseng Dessert Wine, Gascony, France
Really lovely spicey pudding wine from Gascony. Gros & Petit Manseng blend. However, I could probably sip my way through it on a hat summer’s day all on its own.

Brunelli, Bianco di Custoza, Italy
Voted in both “money no object” and “best value for money” top 5 by our Virtual Tasters back in the day.
Bianco di Custoza has long been one of my favourite white Italian wines. Situated on the sunny shores of Lake Garda it is a blend of Trebbiano, Garganega, Cortese, Riesling and Malvasia grapes. The resultant wine is soft and creamy with a lingering minerally finish. Yummy!

Domaine Rosier, Blanquette de Limoux, France
My favourite Blanquette de Limoux from over 200 tasted at the Vinisud Trade Wine Fair a couple of years back. Blanquette de Limoux differs from Cremant basically in the grapes used; in this case Mauzac and Chardonnay. It has been lees aged for 12 months and is a lovely clean, creamy style. The Rosier family is rightly proud of this, their top cuvee.

Château d’Or et de Gueules ‘Trassegum’ White organic
This wine was the very first one we had recommended in the national press when we started the business back in 2006.
The new 2021 vintage is arguably even better, I love it. Think creamy rich white Cotes du Rhone. Three months in barrel just to soften it out a bit and give a rich, soft nicely balanced white wine that will go really well with your Sunday roast.
Recommended by Jancis Robinson: “Lots of interest here.”
Previous vintages RECOMMENDED IN THE OBSERVER. The 2009 vintage displays a beautiful balance and is as good a white from the south of France as you will see anywhere. 50% of the blend is barrel-fermented Roussanne; the rest is unoaked Grenache Blanc and Rolle. It is a rich wine with an excellent balance of oak and will be perfect with your Sunday roast.

Jeff Carrel, Rivesaltes Ambre, Reserve Personnelle 50cls bottle, France
Only 1300 bottles produced. Barrel-aged, nutty blend of Maccabeu / Grenache Blanc / Grenache Gris. Desert wine. Difficult to describe, so here’s what the maker, Jeff, said himself;
“Nuance, aroma & taste? I you want to know, you had better taste it for yourself!”
Aging potential: Infinite! Keep bottle upright, do not lie it down!

Marc Chauvet Champagne ‘Initiales’ 2012 Vintage, France
Very simply, when the very best Champagne producer (in my opinion) produces what she considers to be her top of the range…..well, why wouldn’t you want some?
……and when you consider that big brand Moet & Chandon was £43 in Tesco when I last checked, isn’t this a no-brainer?
Clotilde says; L’année 2012 a été marquée par des conditions difficiles mais il s’agit d’une vendange exceptionnelle, les vins sont vifs et marqués d’arômes de fruits blancs.
