Excelsior Merlot South Africa
Like its white cousin, this is a great party wine and goes well with most foods or just on its own. Rich, juicy Merlot from a favourite Estate of ours. Much recommended by Real Wine Co customers. 45% of the blend was aged in french and american oak barrels for six months. The wine is exceptionally concentrated and fruity.MerlotSoft & Smooth RedsSouth Africa2018750 ml14%+

Abbotts & Delaunay Carignan
Gold medal-winning traditional local varietal, old vines – Carignan from the south of France. Soft tannins, nice ‘n spicy. Long skin contact for deep colour, and over six months oak aging for complexity….rather a nice wine, really

Casabel Portuguese Red
Lovely soft red with vibrant cherry-like fruit. A great example of just how much fun Portuguese wines can be.
This is a soft, yet well-structured, unoaked red from the Lisbon Region. If the Cerejeiras is defined by easy fruit, this has a bit more oomph, so will take richer food. It has lovely clean fruit character.Red BlendsSoft & Smooth RedsPortugal2018750 ml13-13.5%
Villa des Anges Reserve (Jeff again)
One of those wines which make you stop in your wine-tasting tracks. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot (roughly a third of each) has been aged for 14 months in tanks with oak staves (!) before bottling. It’s enough to make you wonder whether or not you want to buy expensive claret again!Mixed BlendSoft & Smooth RedsFrance2018750 ml14%+
Du Plevaux Pinotage South Africa
New vintage of “a hidden gem” ( Platter’s 2016) just back in stock. A masculine Pinotage with a rich dark plum colour, complemented by a structured palate of coffee, chocolate & black berries which support the long soft finish. A minimal five months in barrels make it fruit-driven rather than too oaky.

Verus Pinot Noir, Slovenia
New wine from the gang – their first red – smart Pinot Noir. Verus wines need little commentary. They are all superb, demonstrating what Jancis Robinson called “a purity of fruit” when we shipped their first ever vintage in 2008.Pinot NoirSoft & Smooth RedsSlovenia2015750 ml13-13.5%

Miguel Merino Rioja Mazuelo de la Quinta Cruz Unfiltered
Same as the 2104 vintage but unfiltered and demonstrates how beautifully such a wine can age.
Miguel explains how they are able to produce a wine from 100% of his lesser-used varietal. “Mazuelo is a fertile, vigorous plant which requires a long-cycle to reach complete ripening. It is also sensitive to many diseases. All these explains why Mazuelo is more adequate to the Mediterranean latitudes than to an Atlantic influenced land as Rioja Alta.
Only the extraordinary characteristics of our Quinta Cruz vineyard allow us to make this wine in our town.”Other Single Varietal RedSoft & Smooth RedsSpain2011750 ml13-13.5%
