  • Carignan Blanc “sur lit” by Jeff Carrel

This wine is meant to be cloudy! One of Jeff’s self-declared Top Five. This is Sur Lit (“sur lie”, geddit?)….100% Carignan Blanc and non-filtered leaving the lees in the bottle. Jeff wants you to shake the bottle to stir up the lees. The result is a cloudy wine with loads of leesy aromas. Normally a light flavoured wine such as a Muscadet is left on its lees in tank for a while, stirred occasionally to get the extra lees flavour but then filtered bright. Worth a punt, don’t you think?

  • Dans l’Air du Temps Chardonnay by Jeff Carrel

One of Jeff’s self-proclaimed top five wines (of his own). Soft, rich, buttery Chardonnay but just a hint of oak, most comforting.

  • Domaine de la Pigeade Dry Muscat “Petits Grains de Folie”

The southern Rhone is probably best known for its reds such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas …..and Vacqueyras. But they also make grow deliciously grapey, fleshy, fragrant Muscat grapes. Mainly they make a sweet pud wine, but occasionally they ferment it dry like this so you get all the fragrance of the muscat grapes, but it’s dry! My first reaction when I smelled it was “Turkish Delight”.  Enjoy it chilled on its own or with a smoked makerel pate? Lovely picnic wine.
